The University of Otago, with the support of the Southeast Asia, North Asia and Latin America CAPEs, runs this exciting programme annually in schools across the South Island. The programme involves a a series of interactive workshops which have been designed to encourage students to learn more about the languages and cultures of Southeast Asia, North Asia and Latin America. These workshops are run in primary schools, intermediate schools and after school programmes by international students from the CAPEs regions, who are currently enrolled at the University of Otago.

Volunteers 2020.jpg

This programme has proved to be a huge success to date in exposing a large volume of participants to some of the languages and cultures of countries of Southeast Asia. Recent installments of this programme in 2019 and 2020 have proved not only that school children learn all about these exciting regions, but that the student volunteers also learn about each other's cultures and forge lasting friendships.

If you are an international student interested in volunteering, or a teacher eager to bring this programme to your classroom, please contact programme manager Glenys Needs
