'Te Hononga-ā-Kiwa' refers to the connections of people personified through the travels of the legendary voyager and explorer Kiwa through the pacific.

The purpose of the Te Hononga-ā-Kiwa programme is to increase Māori business capability and awareness and to improve Māori business engagement in the Southeast Asia region.

In recent years, cohorts have travelled to Southeast Asia and been physically immersed in the business markets of Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore.

In light of travel restrictions, the programme has been temporarily redesigned to offer an online platform to increase Māori business engagement, capability and awareness internationally. Students will still experience an opportunity that incorporates educational, business and leadership knowledge and expertise within a unique international context, alongside like-minded peers under the shared values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and aroha.
